Extra Curricular Activities
Explore our purpose-built learn-to-swim pool, designed specifically for children. In our pool, kids start by learning essential skills like floating and breathing on the first step, progressing to the second step where they can practise kicking and swimming short distances. The final step of the pool allows children to confidently jump in and swim across the width, mastering the art of swimming. Our swimming lessons are taught by the experienced instructors at Stepping Stones Montessori. We usually end the first term with a swimming gala to showcase our lessons.
The second term focuses on our sports day where the children are encouraged to build core strength and stamina through various outdoor gross motor activities. The term ends with a vibrant school Sports day.
The final term builds the creative and arts side of development in each child. We come together for an end of year school production and focus on singing, dancing and lots of creative arts and crafts that are all showcased on the final production day.
The third term also sees the introduction of Taekwondo for RECEPTION children, again building on stamina, discipline, core strength and resistance in the children from a very young age.
Areas of Learning
Arts and Craft.
Art within the Montessori School strives to maintain the great joy the child finds in creating something of his or her own. The children must have the freedom to explore their imaginations using a variety of mediums for this expression. All of this will be possible at Stepping Stones as we have easels, placed with plenty of light and space. Additionally the children have access to many resources which will encourage the children to form a love of Art!
Music
Music will be incorporated into the daily routine and is respected at the same level as any other form of learning that is done throughout the day. Children will learn about Rhythm, Pitch, Timbre, Intensity, Form and Culture at Stepping Stones and this will be taught using songs, finger rhymes, clapping, instruments, singing, body movements, to name a few.
Swimming
Swimming lessons will be offered to every child who attends Stepping Stones Montessori School. Children who attend school for 5 days per week will be given two (2) half hour lessons per week. Children attending 3 or 4 days per week will be given one (1) half hour lesson per week.
Gross motor Development
Stepping Stones has a wonderfully spacious play area for children to develop and master their gross motor skills daily. We have multiple climbing frames, a bike track, a sandpit, an exploratory herb garden and a beautiful patch of green grass to run around on. Balls, hoops, beanbags and other outdoor equipment will be rotated regularly so that children have exposure to all sorts of materials and develop their core strength in a fun and interactive way.
